Here are some of the answers to questions about NVQ's that we would
ask if we were you. If you have a question about NVQ's that isn't
answered here please ask us by emailing nvq@icebi.co.uk.
Or pick up the phone and speak to us. You will find our number on
the contact page.
You
said that the NVQ is free to eligible candidates. What is an eligible
candidate?
To qualify for your free NVQ the candidate must be under 25, employed
for at least 16 hours a week, and not hold a degree. We can still
put people through NVQ's if they don't match this criteria but this
does incur charges.
How long will it take to get the NVQ?
Between 6 months and 2 years, it depends a lot on the candidate
and how quickly they progress.
What NVQ's do you offer?
We offer NVQ's to Level 3 in Sales, Contact Centre (telesales) and
Customer Service. Through our partners we can also offer Business
Administration and Accounts NVQ's.
You say that the candidate has to be employed. What happens if
they leave?
The NVQ follows the candidate. Providing their new employer agrees,
they just continue with their qualification. We follow them too!
I imagine that they are taken away from the workplace for lengthy
periods?
Absolutely not. All assessment is carried out in the workplace.
There is no time in the classroom at all.
Hmmm. I'm not convinced about the whole 'NVQ' thing. Why should
I bother?
An NVQ is a Nationally Recognised Vocational Qualification. It proves
competency, ability and that the skills are there to do the job.
Would you go and see a Doctor who hadn't got a qualification in
doctoring?
OK, I see your point. Free for eligible candidates you said.
Where does the money come from then?
The cost of putting candidates through an NVQ is funded by the Learning
Skills Council, www.lsc.gov.uk.
We apply for the funding; you don't have to worry about that.
Sounds fantastic but there must be a catch?
No there really isn't. As long as we have eligible candidates, the
cost of the NVQ is nil, nothing, zero. The contract exists between
the candidate, the Learning Skills Council and us. All you have
to do is be proud of the employee when they have gained their qualification.
I'm interested. What do I do now?
Contact us, nvq@icebi.co.uk
and we will arrange to come and see you. Simple. |
