What is it?
Process and procedure management (in English) is simply standardising
best practice, it's the mapping of day-to-day business activities
to ensure that all employees know exactly what to do and when to
do it.
Why
should I have procedures and processes?
There are many reasons why you should have procedures and processes;
here are just a couple of scenarios.
- You have an employee who has the 'how to' and 'when to' knowledge,
who leaves and takes this expertise with them. You then, have to
spend valuable time organising the training for their successor.
- The way in which different employees go about their
day to day tasks varies enormously; things are sometimes missed,
mistakes are made and vital communication to either the customer
or another department, doesn't always happen.
What are the benefits to me?
- Putting in procedures will standardise your best practice.
- Everyone will have a greater understanding of how
departments impact on each other.
- Provides a framework for induction programmes.
- Assists further training and development programmes.
- Enables you to be proactive in change management.
- Allows you be to better equipped in disaster recovery.
